Dietary supplements
What is new?
From the patient’s perspective, diet and dietary supplements are important topics. Many patients use supplements, and recent studies have addressed their impact on LDL-C. Current evidence shows no relevant effect of dietary supplements, in tablet or pill format, on LDL cholesterol.
The class III recommendation is an important novel part of the 2025 Updated Guidelines.
Unless specifically mentioned in the 2025 updated guidelines, the recommendations (e.g., on functional foods) as stated in Table 8 in the 2019 guidelines, remain applicable. Recommendations concerning diet as stated in the 2019 guidelines are unchanged by the 2025 focused update.
