Prof. Gielen has been active in cardiovascular prevention for nearly two decades.
He works as an interventional cardiologist and is Director of the Dept. of Cardiology, Angiology, and Intensive Care Medicine at the Klinikum Lippe, Detmold, Germany, and is a member of the Medical Faculty of the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. He is editor of the ESC Textbook of Preventive Cardiology and author/co-author of more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles.

His scientific focus lies in preventive cardiology, lipid management, and trans-sectoral heart failure management.
