TG-rich lipoproteins: stars or second advantage in the field of residual CV risk? by Prof. Alberto Zambon

This presentation was given by Professor Alberto Zambon as part of the EAS-LatAm webinar entitled ‘Triglyceride-rich lipoproteins as contributors to residual risk.’ Professor Zambon is a world-renowned professor at the University of Padova, Italy, a former member of the EAS Executive Committee, and a current member of the EAS National Societies Committee.
In his excellent and up-to-date overview, Professor Zambon emphasized that findings from genetic studies, clinical trials, and epidemiology strongly support the causal association of triglyceride-rich lipoprotein levels (both fasting and postprandial) with atherogenesis. He then presented the recommendations for drug treatment of patients with hypertriglyceridemia from the 2021 ESC Guidelines for cardiovascular disease prevention in clinical practice, and discussed the effectiveness of fibrates and omega-3 fatty acids. Additionally, he presented the suggested algorithm for the treatment of high- and very high-risk patients with elevated triglycerides, which was recently published in ‘Atherosclerosis.’ This is a very comprehensive lecture you should not miss.
