Outreach:

EAS-LIPRA’s first epidemiology newsletter: a collaborative effort to enhance lipidology and cardiology research in Africa

EAS-LIPRA will launch its first epidemiology newsletter this winter as part of its mission to share recent developments in lipidology and preventive cardiology research across Africa.

With support from various regions of the Western world, EAS-LIPRA brings together researchers and clinicians from multiple countries across Africa with an interest in lipidology, cardiology and patient care to collaboratively compile a registry, in the first instance, including lipid profiles and other risk factors of patients with acute coronary syndrome.

The registry is actively recruiting and has enrolled 103 patients with acute coronary syndrome across five countries thus far with more contributions expected from our current 11-country network across Africa.

To subscribe to our upcoming six-monthly newsletters, please complete this form. To learn more about the project or get involved, please send an email to us to express your interest.

On behalf of all EAS-LIPRA Investigators,

Interest in Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH)? Why not subscribe to the EAS FHSC Newsletter?

The Familial Hypercholesterolemia Studies Collaboration (FHSC) is a global initiative dedicated to improving the understanding and care of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), a genetic condition that leads to high LDL cholesterol and increased cardiovascular risk. At present, the FHSC comprise a network of investigators from 76 countries worldwide and through its global registry, currently including more than 80,000 patients from 68 countries, the FHSC gathers real-world data on FH patients to address gaps in our knowledge of diagnosis, management and health outcomes in these patients.

Recent insights from the FHSC registry in adults and children with FH have been published in The Lancet and The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. Additional information on the project are also available at https://eas-fhsc.org/.

By subscribing to the quarterly FHSC newsletter, you’ll receive updates on the latest news, initiatives and research from the FHSC, including the first global FHSC genetic analysis, and on opportunities for collaboration, as well as links to FH webinars for patients and clinicians. Abbott’s a:care Congress addresses non-adherence, featuring Prof. Shoaib Afzal in panel on behavioral science and patient-centric care

Abbott aims to address the challenge of non-adherence through its a program, which combines digital health and behavioral science to improve patient engagement with their treatment.

We contributed to the largest global virtual gathering of healthcare professionals, where Abbott launched the 3rd edition of the a:care Congress. This year’s congress delved deeply into human behavior, going beyond surface-level solutions:

  • Focused on the complexities of human behavior that drive non-adherence
  • Explored the impact of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence

The congress invited healthcare professionals from around the world to share strategies and insights on transforming care practices, with a focus on patient-centric approaches and the role of behavioral science in promoting medication adherence.

Our Treasurer-Elect, Prof. Shoaib Afzal, participated in the panel ‘Adherence: Whose problem is it?’
