Åsa Tivesten is Professor in Internal Medicine/Endocrinology at the Institute of Medicine, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
Dr Tivesten graduated as M.D. in 1994 at the University of Gothenburg. She received a Board certificate in internal medicine and Ph.D. degree in 2003. As of 2014, she combines a position as Chief physician at the Department of Endocrinology at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital with a Professorship at the University of Gothenburg.
Since 2012, Dr Tivesten is working with the clinical endocrine care of individuals with gender dysphoria in Western Sweden.
Since 2020, she is Director of the Wallenberg Laboratory for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research and Deputy Head of Department for Molecular and Clinical Medicine at the Institute of Medicine, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.
Dr Tivesten´s main research focus is the actions of sex steroids, in particular androgens, on the cardiovascular system. In her research, she combines experimental approaches with epidemiological methods.
