EAS Education:

The 2nd Lp(a) Awareness Day

This week, there’s a new Lp(a) Awareness Day in our calendar, and activities planned to raise public awareness of Lp(a) as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

On Thursday, March 23rd, 17-18:00 CET, our partners FH Europe will host a free webinar, Beat the Odds of an Early Heart Attack: How to communicate Lp(a) risks to your doctor effectively, where Lp(a) patients themselves will share their experiences, together with Prof Florian Kronenberg.

To the webinar registration

EAS first published a Consensus statement on Lp(a) more than a decade ago. With the interest in Lp(a) increasing, Prof Kronenberg, with Prof Erik Stroes and Prof Samia Mora, chaired together a new EAS Consensus Panel and wrote an updated EAS Consensus paper on Lp(a), published last August.

This 2022 statement brings together extensive evidence for elevated Lp(a) concentration as a causal risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), irrespective of gender and ethnicity, as well as for aortic valve stenosis, and provides practical guidance on testing and treating high Lp(a) levels.

More information about the paper

For those looking to understand better the implications of the paper’s conclusions for clinical practice, visit the EAS Academy and our series of Lp(a) webinars – looking at what Lp(a) is, how to measure it, recommendations for screening, therapeutic approaches, and what all this means in practice.
