Interest in Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH)? Why not subscribe to the EAS FHSC Newsletter?

The Familial Hypercholesterolemia Studies Collaboration (FHSC) is a global initiative dedicated to improving the understanding and care of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), a genetic condition that leads to high LDL cholesterol and increased cardiovascular risk. At present, the FHSC comprise a network of investigators from 76 countries worldwide and through its global registry, currently including more than 80,000 patients from 68 countries, the FHSC gathers real-world data on FH patients to address gaps in our knowledge of diagnosis, management and health outcomes in these patients.

Recent insights from the FHSC registry in adults and children with FH have been published in The Lancet and The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. Additional information on the project are also available at https://eas-fhsc.org/.

By subscribing to the quarterly FHSC newsletter, you’ll receive updates on the latest news, initiatives and research from the FHSC, including the first global FHSC genetic analysis, and on opportunities for collaboration, as well as links to FH webinars for patients and clinicians. Stay informed and be part of the global effort to improve FH care!

Rising to the challenge: time for action on cardiovascular health

At present, more than 60 million people in the EU live with cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which remain the main cause of death and disability in Europe, accounting for over €282 billion in healthcare expenditure in the EU every year. The upcoming Council Conclusions on cardiovascular health (CVH) that the Hungarian Presidency is working on, along with the inclusion of CVD in both the European Commission President’s political guidelines and the Mission Letter to the Commissioner-Designate for Health signal a much welcome political commitment towards improving cardiovascular health (CVH) in Europe.

Building on this momentum, this event aims to provide a platform for discussion between EU and national-level stakeholders to explore ways to address CVH in Europe, reduce mortality and morbidity, and improve the quality of life of people living with or at risk of CVD.

This event will explore how to best focus EU-level action towards the unmet needs of the cardiovascular community and ensure that the new EU mandate puts forward the right tools to support the communities and the Member States in promoting CVH. The event will also see the participation of representatives of the national Health Ministries, to draw on national best practices and on the learnings of countries that have recently developed national cardiovascular health plans or other strategies to tackle CVD.

The event will be moderated by Prof. Michal Vrablik, Professor of Internal Medicine at Charles University in Prague, the Czech Republic. Speakers will include Members of the European Parliament, representatives from the European Commission, representatives of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and patient representatives.
