Congress:

Call for abstracts: share your research at EAS Congress 2025!

We invite participants who are passionate about sharing their work to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation. Each submission will be carefully reviewed by the Abstract Review Committee to select the most impactful contributions.

If accepted, your abstract could be featured in one of the following exciting formats:

  • Oral presentation: Present your findings to a live audience and engage in dynamic discussions.
  • Poster discussion in a Science at a Glance (SaaG) session: Share your research in an interactive setting with fellow participants.
  • Poster viewing in the Poster Gallery: Showcase your work in our dedicated gallery space, allowing for one-on-one conversations.

Don’t miss this opportunity to share your knowledge and connect with fellow researchers at the EAS Congress 2025!

Gene-based therapies for atherosclerosis treatment, November 13

We are entering an era of gene-based drug approaches that will revolutionize our ability to treat patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, enabling earlier and more effective interventions.

In this EAS webinar, we will examine recent data on RNA-targeting strategies in lipid management and explore therapies based on genome editing with CRISPR/Cas9. Although these treatments are still in development, they hold significant promise for patients with severe dyslipidemias and atherosclerosis.

Join us to gain invaluable insights and practical knowledge from two world-renowned experts in the field!

Featured Open Lecture: Lipotoxicity – a pathogenic mechanism of cell and organ damage by Prof. Jan Borén

The role of lipids in cardiovascular disease is well established through epidemiological studies; however, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms remain largely unknown. Numerous recent studies focus on the deleterious impact of lipids on cardiovascular health.

In this lecture, Prof. Jan Borén presents a state-of-the-art overview of current knowledge in the field. To further deepen understanding of this topic, we recommend the online Advanced Course: Lipidomics, Lipotoxicity, and Organ Damage: Uncovering New Lipid-Dependent Pathophysiological Pathways, Biomarkers, and Therapeutic Targets, available on the EAS Academy.

EAS-LIPRA’s first epidemiology newsletter: a collaborative effort to enhance lipidology and cardiology research in Africa

EAS-LIPRA will launch its first epidemiology newsletter this winter as part of its mission to share recent developments in lipidology and preventive cardiology research across Africa.

With support from various regions of the Western world, EAS-LIPRA brings together researchers and clinicians from multiple countries across Africa with an interest in lipidology, cardiology and patient care to collaboratively compile a registry, in the first instance, including lipid profiles and other risk factors of patients with acute coronary syndrome.

The registry is actively recruiting and has enrolled 103 patients with acute coronary syndrome across five countries thus far with more contributions expected from our current 11-country network across Africa.

To subscribe to our upcoming six-monthly newsletters, please complete this form. To learn more about the project or get involved, please send an email to us to express your interest.

EAS Rare Lipid Disorder Courses ready to watch anytime

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you about the EAS Rare Lipid Disorder Courses, independently managed by EAS with kind financial support from Alexion.

The EAS Rare Lipid Disorder Courses are designed to improve recognition and understanding of these important conditions, focusing on practical evaluation, management techniques, and real clinical case studies. Organized in partnership with national societies, these one-day events delve into genetic lipid metabolism disorders, covering specific conditions such as ß-sitosterolemia, cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis, lysosomal acid lipase deficiency, high-density lipoprotein disorders, and familial hypocholesterolemias.

We strongly believe these courses are a rich source of practical knowledge, and we highly recommend watching them on-demand, often available in your native language. Attending future live sessions is also a great way to stay informed.

Why is it essential for clinicians to understand rare lipid disorders?

Although each rare lipid disorder may be individually uncommon, their collective impact is significant in clinical practice. Specialized practitioners, including lipidologists, will likely encounter patients with these conditions, which are often associated with high morbidity and mortality. Enhancing understanding and diagnostic skills in these areas can greatly benefit patient outcomes and improve overall care standards.
